This mixed-media piece is "Book of Life, an End" by Jayne Reid Jackson
It's a cigarbox, standing on end with its cover open, papered with old dictionary and encyclopedia pages including naked figures and skeletons, fitted with mysterious agglomeration of cigarette butts, batteries, wires, and screws

Sixteen selections from my disability rights bookshelf, all of which use red prominently in their decoration.

Fundraising Gingerbread House for CASA

...from the exceptionally talented deli staff at our local food coop, Willy Street Coop.

Most of the gingerbread houses were shingled entirely in shiny candy, but the Coop took a more "natural" looking approach with graham crackers. I thought the maple sugar candy decorations interspersed with star anise were particularly exquisite.
The CASAs are court-appointed special advocates who volunteer to act in the "best interests of the child" in custody issues in U.S. courts. That people are making cakes to raise money for this work shows that family health is low on our national scale.

Clearly someone is living their dreams with this car. Choosing one shot was hard.

( Stone needs regular maintenance, too )
Oh and by the way, this community is so much fun! Thank you for sharing your work, and encouraging us all to enjoy the world around us and see more photo opportunities in our daily lives!

I seem compelled to caption these images. What do other shutter-speedsters think? Does it modify your experience?

Light Twice and Water

This "Window to the Stars" seems like abstract art, but
sasha_feather can testify that it's actually my living room ceiling.

Up north in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, light and water are major industries (after popsicle stick factories and paper converters).
( Life at the Margin )
ETA: Fix borked code, and huh! Editing this comm entry I didn't get the nifty "Reason for edit" prompt.
