Freesia Budding Out: A red freesia, mostly buds at this stage.

My garden smells so good right now with all the freesia, let me tell you.

Anemone: A purple flower, open wide and open to the sun

I have been woefully remiss about posting to this comm Because Busy, but I realised there's a purple challenge on, and, well, look at this purple flower, people.

Apparently [personal profile] sasha_feather  and I both felt the pull of the cemetery! This is Hillcrest Memorial in Mendocino, California. There's a large Portuguese community on the coast and their graves are kinda clustered together in one area of the cemetery. (Most came around the turn of the 20th century to work in the logging camps.)

I have not been doing very well lately and consequently have not been keeping up with [community profile] shutterspeed, so this challenge is pretty much made for me. Sigh.

One for decay/collapse, and a few more beyond the cut...

A marsh hawk, a small hawk with striped markings, sitting on a concrete piling.

Spotted on my way to the beach.

Sign at the Temple Kwan Tai in Mendocino, California, writing in gold on a red background.

This is the sign over the Temple Kwan Tai, believed to be one of the oldest Taoist temples in North America, built by the Chinese community in Mendocino. I would lay some history on y'all about the Chinese in California, but this is a photo community, not a history one.

Shadows

Debris inside an abandoned house. The roof is missing in this section so the area is flooded in sunlight, and a fallen branch is casting a shadow that looks like a high heel.

I am intrigued by the suggestive shape of this shadow!

A tree fell through this house during a winter storm around 10 years ago; you can see more images at my Flickr if you are interested!

wtf?

Dry Rot along the edges of a door. Part of the door has been removed from the frame to expose the rot.

Ah, the ongoing saga of the door. Fully a year after I pointed out that it was rotten, Landlord decided to do something about it. The funny thing about rotting things is that if you leave them to rot for a year, the rot gets worse.

On the other hand, I was just complaining about poor ventilation, so maybe I should be thankful for the large hole in my door.

A view of the inside of an abandoned train car, showing shadows cast by holes in the roof.

This abandoned traincar is rotting into the ground. It is very sad, but also very photogenic.

Shot with my brand-spankin' new Canon Digital Rebel T1i! Yes, I am gloating.

Mendocino Coast Democrats and Lady Liberty; people marching in blue shirts accompanied by a woman dressed as Lady Liberty. All are smiling broadly.

From the Mendocino Fourth of July Parade, an (in)famous annual event. Lots more pictures up at my Flickr if you're interested in seeing non-blue things!
