The mountains have funny light and funny animals

Not that deer are that odd a sight at home, but this one was particularly curious. Both pictures taken at Waterton Lakes National Park while on vacation last week.


I love her 'silly tourist' look.


The sun was just setting behind the mountains behind me. It must have dropped between two because the rest of the valley was dark, but this peak was painted momentarily with sunshine.


Some of my favorite shots are real flukes. I was trying to take a long exposure of the stars when the person in the campsite opposite started their car and turned on the brake lights. (Taken at Dinosaur Prov. Park, AB)

I really really love that deer photo! Just in the center of the frame and the big dark ears and the subtle black and white and the detail and the expression! Love.

Thank you. She was a real sweetheart, just patiently standing there while I snapped away. There are a few really people tolerant deer that wander through the campground every day that they're used to all the commotion if the camera.

Thanks! Turns out it was raining on the other side of the mountain, so he light was kind of special that evening.

Oh, lovely! The deer is very cute. I really love the third one, the glow on the rocks (from the brake lights?) and the lit-up tent look fabulous against the wheeling stars. How long an exposure did you do?

Thanks! I think I cut the star exposure just short of two minutes because the driver looked like he was going to turn his headlights towards the camera. I didn't even realize the tent was there until I looked at the picture. Weird how that happens.

These are all stunning! The deer photo looks like something out of an old issue of National Geographic and the two mountain photos like their out of a modern issue.

Oh wow, thanks so much. It shouldn't surprise you then that there have been copies if Nat. Geo. stacked all over my house for as long as I can remember. Subliminal influence, maybe? ;)
