I kept thinking this picture was really out of focus, but I realized that the rain was coming down painfully hard and I'd used a slower shutter speed to capture the entire bolt, which made anything being viewed through the rain really blurry.
Thank you! The hardest part was trying to keep the camera dry. Every time I took my finger off the button to move the tripod to drier ground, that's when the lightening would strike.
Thanks! No, central Canadian Prairies, actually. We do get some of the larger storm systems that South Dakota get, but not usually of that severity. We've had a couple in the last few years that merited hanging out in the basement until they passed, but the cat is pretty good at warning about those, so we get lots of warning.
I can't remember who it was that said that 'cats are my favorite people' but that's pretty much the truth. ;) It's less of a case of her telling us when the storm is going to be bad, and more a case of actually not being underfoot nonstop when it starts getting windy, and refusing to come when we whistle. We usually end up finding her under something in the basement, and so far she's never been wrong.
That doesn't surprise me at all. The (non-human) animal kingdom doesn't have nearly the filters on that the human part does. The ability to detect and react to subtle cues in the atmosphere, sound waves, etc., is much better than ours. I had a cat long ago who would act up before an earthquake, as if something was hurting his ears.
Fortunately, it's not like earthquakes are annual events, but it was very marked the couple of times it happened.
