Thanks! I'm finding it interesting to crop out points of reference in some of these so that what is reflected and what's reflecting it are less important than the shapes and colors.
Also, I keep photographing myself! And that's not what I really want to depict. :D
I really like the second one - it's funny how easy it is for a picture like this to twig a memory because it lacks any of the details that make it recognizable to me (in a very good way!). I can almost hear the seagulls.
re: photographing yourself - does it help if you try your shot from an angle instead of straight on? (kind of like skipping a stone?)Or is it more of a function of the shape of the object making it difficult?
A little of each, really. I think in shiny objects like the coffee pot in the first picture, I see an interesting, distorted reflection and have a hard time positioning myself where the reflection is still interesting but doesn't contain me or the camera. It's an interesting challenge.
I absolutely love the second picture. The sun glittering in the tiny waves is beautiful and it reminds me of all the happy times I've spent in the Stockholm archipelago.
It really is. I took some natural eyesight-improvement lessons a year or so ago, and one of the eye "exercises" is to create dappled light on your closed eyelids by facing into the sun and moving your spread fingers back and forth between your eyes and the light. It's amazingly soothing and relaxing. I think something chemical gets triggered by its effect on the optic nerve. Dopamine or serotonin or something.
