In honour of Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, I decided to make red velvet cupcakes. The batter intrigued me from a patternly perspective.
Ok so fair warning, these came out more like mauve velvet cupcakes than red velvet cupcakes. Also, I suck at frosting, which is pretty funny since I used to work for a bakery. As, among other things, a cake decorator. Clearly my skills had lain fallow too long. Also, in my defense, I didn't have any of my usual tools (I had to jury-rig a pastry bag out of a Ziplock for pete's sake!).

Ta-da! Check out that lumpy frosting. That is the mark of a pro, I tell you.

(and I always use a ziplock bag for decorating because I hate cleaning out pastry bags afterwards. works great with royal icing)
