I hiked the Hedge again today.  In Very Depressing news, something happened to my robin's eggs.  The nest was perfectly intact, but there were two shells with yokes on the ground.  I would think that if it were idiot humans the nest would have been taken or destroyed too.  If an animal got the eggs, you'd think they'd have eaten everything they found.  Either way, gr.

So instead we have a baby squirrel eating her greens.  Mama was on the opposite side of the tree getting her fill of the little bud shoots.  After a few minutes her* brother came out and there were two babies on one side of the tree and mama on the other.

My telephoto's pretty good - she's at least 20 feet off the ground in this shot - but I never really could get an angle I really liked.  Go figure.  I was not 20 feet off the ground. :)

* genders assumed, cause you know, my lens isn't *that* good and well, I don't want really want it to be. :)

Aw! I'm sad for the robin's eggs! Nice capture of the squirrel, though.

That's sad, but I'm not terribly surprised--a nest that low. :( (I haven't been able to find anything online about observing nesting birds--I think I must have seen some stuff in a bird book. Mostly it boils down to not getting close enough to scare the parent far away, and not staying close for long, since the eggs/nestlings rely on the parent to stay warm/cool.)

Love the baby squirrel!

How cute! A pity about the robin's eggs, though. :(
