I hung out at my dad's for lunch today and his bearded irises are going full steam. They are really rather lovely flowers (with some interesting patterns when viewed up close) and I adore their delicate scent.

A red bearded iris, viewed in closeup. The yellow and orange stripes at the base of the petals are visible, as is the strip of yellow fuzz that runs down the middle of the petal.

This red is so intense and rich. It looks like velvet.
