Heron dreams (and some more stone)

After eyeing a Black-crowned Night Heron through binoculars for several minutes, I turned around and holy crap! There was one preening in a palm right in front of me. There were some stairs across from it, so I decided to quietly walk up them, turning back if the heron looked agitated.

The heron went to sleep.

Personally, I am very glad not to have to sleep standing on one leg on a swaying palm frond, but the heron seemed quite happy.

Dream & Stone

Clearly someone is living their dreams with this car. Choosing one shot was hard.

I go past a churchyard a lot, and they have a little seating area with a beautiful stone and brick pattern laid out on the ground, almost every stone has something different about it. This one is my favourite.

lichen-y stone and stony features

Three photos from the end of last week. The lichen covered stone stands right beside the apartment building I live in, and the stone features is a granite bust of a local dignitary from the early part of the 20th century.

What is a stone?

Ahu (rock pile) at 'Anaeho'omalu beach in Hawai'i (ahu are controversial in some places in Hawai'i; my photograph does not imply an opinion):

I seem compelled to caption these images. What do other shutter-speedsters think? Does it modify your experience?

Stacked Stones

This is my first post here, so, uh, hi.

This was a statue type thing I found in front of the Earth Sciences building at my university.

Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery

Apparently [personal profile] sasha_feather  and I both felt the pull of the cemetery! This is Hillcrest Memorial in Mendocino, California. There's a large Portuguese community on the coast and their graves are kinda clustered together in one area of the cemetery. (Most came around the turn of the 20th century to work in the logging camps.)

Think Big!

130 million tons big. Which is approximately the weight of stone that slid down the mountain onto the town of Frank in the early 1900s.

It looks a bit like an easter egg, don't you think? ;-D

This was the first thing I thought of when I saw the new aperture.
