Ah, the details.
My husband and I are not house-hunting with great fervor, but are idly looking. I recently saw a house (a foreclosure) online which looked very good - and underpriced. "I have got to see that," I told my husband. "I want to know what's wrong with it!"
...I found out. Oh my did I find out. Yes, this explains a little:

I especially like the door into open air where the second-floor balcony used to be. They've tied a single length of caution tape over it on the inside.

eta: Huh, actually, having followed the link to the listing, the rest of the house is in pretty good condition. It looks like they ran out of money in the middle of quite the fixing up. Probably about the time they were adding on/changing the rear porch. I like that the ground level door is blocked off, though, while the second story door has just a strip of caution tape. :P

I think they had some odd addition under the deck - the marks on the siding make me wonder. Also, the first-floor plywood is not in front of a door. It's opposite a bathroom which has no door/window...but the drywall above the jetted tub doesn't look quite right. I suspect they removed a window at some point? Maybe?
Over by the hit tub is a little closet that opens on te deck. It has some kind of vine growing up through it.
