It took me a minute, but the actual beauty of this photo is that the candle isn't lit. Much more interesting that way.

Yeah, there's something about an unlit candle in certain lights, early morning or evening mostly, that makes it look almost desolate. I've still to figure out why.

This was one of those completely unplanned photos that unexpectedly turns out great. I just happened to walk past it on my way to the kitchen and realised that it maybe would work for the shadows prompt, snatched up the camera and fired off a couple of shots.
