Movement

Photobucket

Though I've been a member of this community since last year, I don't think I ever posted here. I've been away from DW for a while but came back recently and started posting again. This photo is from today. It's not the best image of an insect in flight, but it is my first attempt. So I'm glad I got it at all. I used a Nikon D3000 and kit lens.

Insects in flight are a really challenging subject! That is a fine photo for a first attempt at it.

Success is kind of a combination of luck, practice, camera settings, and knowledge of insect behavior, I've found. Even then, it's pretty hit-and-miss, but a fun challenge!

Are you using a long lens or a short one?

18-55mm ish? Taking a bee photo with that is pretty darned impressive!

I have a 55-250mm lens and it is pretty awesomely fun, and usable for photographing larger insects--for serious insect photography, a macro is better for many purposes, but not in my budget right now.

I am sure you will have fun with the 55-200, too! Every lens lets you photograph different subjects better. :-)

Oooh, that's a great shot!

I'm making you a photographer tag, which you can use on any pictures you take if you want to be able to find them later.

That's a fascinating and quite lovely photo. Those translucent wings are fantastic.
