3: Lines and patterns

I took a walk along a gorge and a waterfall last weekend, and it was just gorgeous! And also full of interesting water-cut rocks; a lot of the landscape around here is shale, which is layered and fractures along layers and faults to make really neat lines and patterns. Here's a shot of some rough water and the lines in the rock:

I always think that the stone looks so neat and tidy, like layercake or a stack of papers or something.

More layercake in the same part of the gorge:

And some more, looking totally like steps:

Somewhat creepier rock patterns:

Somewhat brighter rock patterns, showing off the different kinds of shale layers:

This shot is through the waterfall in the shot above, and it's a little too bright but I liked the different kinds of rock patterns across the stream:

This shot is from inside a tunnel past the waterfall at the end of the tunnel; the rock patterns in the lower part of the picture are part of a man-made wall, and in the upper the patterns are the shale breaking more-or-less "naturally":

Lovely! Water does such interesting stuff to rock.

For Lines and Patterns, I think your first one is very strong, but all of them, particularly the third one with the circular opening emphasized, are just beautiful, magical. What a fantastic place!

These are soooo pretty! This place looks like something out of a story book.
